Identifiable Information Collecting

All methods of identifying yourself to GE will be optional and opt-in, may be updated by you at any time, and will not be required for all areas of the web site.

We will not collect any identifiable user information from the areas of the HealthAhead web site which do not require SSO (Single Sign On), unique User ID (Identification), and/or Password.

There are areas of the web site that require you to identify yourself to us (authenticate). This allows you to access certain parts of the web site that may otherwise be restricted for privacy and security purposes.

There are also areas that may provide the option to create a personalized profile. The information you provide is optional and what you tell us will determine the level of personalization you will experience.

Access to identifiable information is restricted to internal, administrative personnel and solely for purposes of providing web site support, awarding prizes and other recognition, and customizing the web site content and overall functionality for the user. However, we will also allow you to change your mind and opt-out of sharing personal information with us at any time.

Non-Identifiable Information Collecting

When you visit the HealthAhead web site, we track, collect and report on certain aggregate and non- identifiable information. In other words, the information we collect does not relate to a single identifiable visitor. It tells us things such as how many users visited our web site and what pages they viewed.

This non-identifiable data will be collected and stored in a secure database in the U.S., and may be viewed by GE. We will analyze this information to refine our web site to better reflect user preferences, such as the type of content users are searching for most, and to improve the usability of the web site and the user’s web site experience. The information may also be used for purposes of promoting the web site. The data will not be used for medical analysis or other medical purposes.

Like many web sites, the HealthAhead web site uses browser cookies – bits of text placed on your computer’s hard drive when you visit. We use them to tell us things like whether you’ve visited us before, and to help us identify features in which you may have the greatest interest. We also use cookies to track country and language selection.

Our primary metrics include: Poll response rate, repeat visits, number of times content is shared, and visits by country.

The sub-metrics include:

Most Popular Content Types, Most Popular Content Topics, User Pathing, Exit Links, Bounce Rate, Traffic by Source (region), Time on Web site, Visit Time of Day, Unique Views/Page Views, Thumps Up/Down, Most Shared Content, Number of Times Content is Rated, Most Rated Content by Type, Language Selection.

We will also be tracking how much communicators, web site leaders and other HealthAhead operations teams are leveraging the web site to support and align their business, regional and web site specific efforts. Some of these metrics may be tracked using existing support central tools.

These metrics may include:

Number of Content Submissions by Region, Number of non-corporate Driven Promotions by RCs, Number of Promotional Downloads by Region, Support Central Survey

Feedback Form

Your feedback is important to the web site’s ongoing development, so we’d love to hear your opinions and ideas. To contact us, please use this Feedback form. We will not be able to respond directly, but all feedback will be reviewed, evaluated, and factored into future content decisions. Please note: this form is monitored by IT support staff only. Poll and Quiz Responses

On the web site, we will conduct polls and quizzes to better understand user activities, attitudes, interests and knowledge across multiple health topics. Eat It or Leave It? Make Healthier Food Choices Every Day

Eating healthy isn’t always easy – especially when you are in the mood for comfort food, a sweet treat, or meal on the go. Fortunately, forgoing occasional indulgences isn’t the only way (or even the best way) to enjoy a well-balanced diet. Our new “Eat It or Leave It” series will help you choose the healthiest versions of your favorite foods, without sacrificing on flavor or convenience. Check out this month’s collection of “Eat It or Leave It” articles, slideshows, and recipes to learn how to cut calories and boost the nutrient value of your snacks and meals. With a few smart swapping strategies, you can have your cake and eat it too!

Here are some basic strategies to get you started.

Eat It: Baked, Grilled, or Steamed Foods, Leave It: Fried Foods

When the menu says “crispy” or “battered”, you know the food is probably high in fat. Fortunately, many foods that are commonly deep fried taste great when cooked in the oven, over the stove, or on the grill too.

Love shrimp? Choose steamed, instead of battered and fried, to shave up to 9 grams of fat and 122 calories from each 3-ounce serving. Crave tortilla chips? Grab a handful of baked chips, instead of fried, to cut up to 5 grams of fat and 21 calories per ounce eaten. When dunked in salsa, you won’t even notice the difference!

Eat It: Red Sauces, Leave It: White Sauces

Dips and sauces that rely on cream, cheese, butter, and eggs for flavor are typically high in fat and calories. In contrast, tomato-based alternatives tend to be lighter and packed with antioxidants, such as lycopene.

Instead of mayonnaise, add a dollop of ketchup. For every ounce you swap, you could avoid up to 199 calories and 24 grams of fat. Instead of tartar sauce, dip your seafood in shrimp-cocktail sauce. For every ounce you switch, you could steer clear of up to 160 calories and 18 grams of fat.

Eat It: Fruit on Oatmeal or Cereal, Leave It: Added Sugar

Although fruit does contain sugar, it comes bundled in a complex package with loads of fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. In contrast, refined sugars and sweeteners provide few nutritional benefits. Avoid sugary products in favor of unsweetened options. If you need extra sweetness, you can add some fruit to liven up your meal.

For example, if instant oatmeal is a staple part of your morning routine, purchase plain oats instead of flavored packets. You could avoid up to 16 grams of sugar with each serving. Stir in a quarter cup of sliced strawberries instead, adding less than two grams of sugar and approximately 37% of your daily recommended intake of vitamin C to your morning meal. Top with a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor.

Eat It: Low-Sodium Soups and Snacks, Leave It: High-Sodium Packaged Foods

Look for reduced-sodium and unsalted options when shopping for convenience food and snacks.

For example, a can of ready-to-eat chicken noodle soup may contain up to 979 mg of salt per serving. In comparison, a reduced-salt version of the same comfort food could provide up to 25% less sodium per serving. Similarly, switching from regular pretzels to unsalted pretzels could cut up to 1029 mg of sodium from each serving.

Get More of the Good Stuff

Limiting fat, sugar, and salt is just one part of healthy eating. It is also important to enjoy a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein foods. These provide the energy and nutrients needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

You can still work towards your recommended daily intake of the “good stuff” while enjoying occasional treats. Ordering a burger? Ask for garden salad on the side, instead of an order of curly fries. You could lighten your meal by up to 595 calories and 34 grams of fat, while consuming up to fifteen times as much Vitamin A and nearly six times as much Vitamin C in your side dishes alone.
