GE’s disability plan continues all or a portion of your pay when you are medically unable to work, and will generally cover 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for delivery by C-section.  See the “Life Insurance & Disability Benefits” section of Your Benefit Handbook for details about these benefits.  Any time that you are paid under GE’s disability benefit plan will run concurrently with leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and any similar state laws (depending on the laws of the state in which you work).  GE disability benefits are administered by the GE Disability Benefits & Leave Center (1-800-392-0789, option 1).
 

Under the Family Medical & Leave Act (FMLA), eligible employees are entitled to up to 12 weeks off during a rolling 12 month period for various situations, including the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care.  More time may be available depending on the laws of the state in which you work; less time if you have already exhausted some of your leave entitlement in the preceding 12 month period. Leave taken under GE’s Disability benefits (for birth mothers) and the use of other GE paid time off such as GE Parental Leave, GE Paid Bonding Time, vacation or personal business while on a qualifying leave, will run concurrently with FMLA, state and or local leave law time and will not extend the length of your leave. FMLA is administered by the GE Disability Benefits & Leave Center (1-800-392-0789, option 2).
