Identifiable Information Collecting

All methods of identifying yourself to GE will be optional and opt-in, may be updated by you at any time, and will not be required for all areas of the web site.

We will not collect any identifiable user information from the areas of the HealthAhead web site which do not require SSO (Single Sign On), unique User ID (Identification), and/or Password.

There are areas of the web site that require you to identify yourself to us (authenticate). This allows you to access certain parts of the web site that may otherwise be restricted for privacy and security purposes.

There are also areas that may provide the option to create a personalized profile. The information you provide is optional and what you tell us will determine the level of personalization you will experience.

Access to identifiable information is restricted to internal, administrative personnel and solely for purposes of providing web site support, awarding prizes and other recognition, and customizing the web site content and overall functionality for the user. Non-Identifiable Information Collecting

When you visit the HealthAhead web site, we track, collect and report on certain aggregate and non- identifiable information. In other words, the information we collect does not relate to a single identifiable visitor. It tells us things such as how many users visited our web site and what pages they viewed.

This non-identifiable data will be collected and stored in a secure database in the U.S., and may be viewed by GE. We will analyze this information to refine our web site to better reflect user preferences, such as the type of content users are searching for most, and to improve the usability of the web site and the user’s web site experience. Like many web sites, the HealthAhead web site uses browser cookies – bits of text placed on your computer’s hard drive when you visit. Our primary metrics include: Poll response rate, repeat visits, number of times content is shared, and visits by country.

The sub-metrics include:

Most Popular Content Types, Most Popular Content Topics, User Pathing, Exit Links, Bounce Rate, Traffic by Source (region), Time on Web site, Visit Time of Day, Unique Views/Page Views, Thumps Up/Down, Most Shared Content, Number of Times Content is Rated, Most Rated Content by Type, Language Selection.

We will also be tracking how much communicators, web site leaders and other HealthAhead operations teams are leveraging the web site to support and align their business, regional and web site specific efforts. Some of these metrics may be tracked using existing support central tools.

These metrics may include:

Number of Content Submissions by Region, Number of non-corporate Driven Promotions by RCs, Number of Promotional Downloads by Region, Support Central Survey

Feedback Form

Your feedback is important to the web site’s ongoing development, so we’d love to hear your opinions and ideas. To contact us, please use this Feedback form. We will not be able to respond directly, but all feedback will be reviewed, evaluated, and factored into future content decisions. Please note: this form is monitored by IT support staff only. Poll and Quiz Responses

On the web site, we will conduct polls and quizzes to better understand user activities, attitudes, interests and knowledge across multiple health topics. A Guide to Dealing with the Stresses of Living with a Long-term Condition

When you’re diagnosed with a long-term health condition, receiving the news can be frightening and disorienting. However, once you move beyond the shock of the diagnosis, you’ll have to learn how to deal effectively with the daily stresses of living with the illness.

Everyone is susceptible to the effects of stress, but living with a long-term condition makes you particularly vulnerable. In addition to challenges you normally face, chronic illness adds new layers of stressors, such as pain or discomfort from symptoms, managing the condition and care, adjusting to new limitations, increased financial pressures, and feelings of frustration, confusion, or isolation.

But there are steps you can take to maximize your quality of life rather than succumbing to the challenges of living with a long-term illness. Use the following strategies to guide you on your road to coping and regaining control:

1. Become a self-manager

Patients with long-term conditions need to take greater responsibility for self-care, thinking of themselves as “day-to-day managers of their illness,” according to the Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome Association (CFIDS) and Fibromyalgia Self-Help Program. Studies show that people with long-term conditions who take more control of their healthcare have improved quality of life, says the National Health Service. Therefore, the daily decisions you make that affect your actions and lifestyle can play a large role in how effectively you circumvent the stressful effects of living with your condition.

This goes beyond the basics of living a healthy lifestyle. Eating nutritious foods and getting enough exercise are important for everyone and can help boost mood, improve mobility, and ease symptoms. But special attention should be paid to additional considerations—including managing your attitude, emotions, and relationships—if you have a chronic condition.

2. Develop adaptability

Attitude and approach can make a big difference in the quality of life that you’re able to achieve with a long-term condition. It’s important to bring a healthy blend of acceptance about the lifestyle changes that your condition requires and hope about your ability to work within these constraints to the best of your ability.

By approaching your condition with adaptability and confidence, you can take control of your life in ways that make a difference to your everyday experience. Develop new skills and habits. 3. Understand your condition

One skill that’s important to develop when you’re living with a long-term condition is to learn everything you can about your symptoms and treatment options. Ask your doctor specific questions about your condition, but don’t stop there: the library, Internet, and associations for specific conditions are all excellent resources to increase your knowledge base.

Observe your body. Notice what seems to ease or exacerbate your symptoms. Use a notebook or calendar to record insights that might help you manage your symptoms better. You can share your notes with your doctor to ensure that your healthcare team has as much information as possible about how your condition affects you.

4. Manage emotions and relationships

Difficult emotions and relationship changes go hand-in-hand with chronic conditions. The all-encompassing nature of chronic illness and its disruption of life and plans can elicit a wide range of emotions and stress responses—from grief and rage to fear, depression, and anxiety.

Experiment with different ways of managing stress and painful emotions to see which are most helpful to you. When you find a technique that works, incorporate it into your daily or weekly routine. Some ideas include:

  • Exercising
  • Stretching
  • Listening to music
  • Deep breathing or meditation
  • Cooking
  • Reading for pleasure
  • Writing in a journal

Relationships that add more stress than support to your life should be released. By making smart choices about where to focus your time and energy, you can live your best possible life.
