Get the most from your plan

1. Call Health Coach from GE. When you’re sick, registered nurses at Health Coach from GE can help you decide if you need to see a doctor, help you understand your diagnosis and treatment options, determine whether you should get a second opinion, or find the nearest convenience clinic or urgent care facility. Call 1-866-272-6007. Health Coach is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week for urgent after-hours care questions and options.
2. If your doctor is not available. Consider going to an urgent care facility instead of the emergency room for more serious issues.  Urgent care generally costs less and is for those who need attention quickly for illnesses and injuries, but do not require an emergency room visit. If it’s a life-threatening situation, call 911.
3. Tell your doctor you have an annual deductible and co-insurance under the plan. Make sure he/she knows you are responsible for a large portion of the cost. Doctors may not think about costs when they choose treatments.
4. Ask questions. It's the best way to save money.  Is there an acceptable generic drug available? Do I really need all these tests?
5. Use an imaging center for MRI and CT scans. Talk to your doctor about getting these types of tests at an imaging center instead of a hospital – you could save hundreds of dollars.
6. Estimate costs for many common medical services by using your medical administrator's cost resources. Compare providers by quality, cost and location.
7. Consider the costs of your drugs.  
   Talk to your doctor about generic alternatives.
   Use mail-order for maintenance medications.
